Fifth Place for Davison On The Mean Streets Of Long Beach

The Pirelli World Challenge saw the Always Evolving Racing Nissan GT-Rs involved in their fifth race of the season with a single 50 minute sprint event around the streets of Long Beach.

It was a tale of mixed fortunes for the #05 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 of Bryan Heitkotter and the #33 GT-R of James Davison across the weekend with Heitkotter setting the third fastest time in his GT-A class (for less experienced drivers) in a short and busy qualifying session, two places on the grid ahead of Davison whose #05 Nissan never found the clear lap required to get onto terms with the leading pack.

In the race however it was Davison that had the better day.

From 15th on the grid the #33 car made rapid progress up the order, a stalled car from the original standing start seeing the field released on the following lap from a rolling grid. That suited the Nissan just fine and four places were immediately gained by Davison. He wasn’t done yet though and with a first racing lap a critical part of the race on a street circuit he knew he had to take chances where they presented themselves, taking “a calculated “dive bomb” on the inside of turn one.”

It paid off and another four cars were passed!

In an incident strewn race the Nissan profited again from restarts putting Davison into the top five by the finish, ten places higher up at the race finish than his starting position and the best overall finish of the year so far in the team’s first season with the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3.

The result may not be done though as the race stewards are investigating incidents involving no fewer than 25 of the 40 starters, including all four of the cars that finished ahead of the Nissan!

Bryan Heitkotter meanwhile had a torrid time amongst the on-track incidents dropping back from his 13th position start slot to 20th by the flag in a race that for many turned into a lottery.

The Always Evolving team though will have been happy to see their cars back undamaged with the next two races in the 2015 season taking place just next weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham Alabama, a 2000 mile road trip!

Always Evolving Racing will next be in action in Pirelli World Challenge at Barber on 24-26 April 2015.

About Nissan GT Academy

GT Academy is a competition created by Nissan and PlayStation® that unites the worlds of virtual and real-life racing to make the dreams of aspiring race drivers become a reality. The competition, which originally launched in Europe in 2008, finds the best Gran Turismo® players from across the participating countries by testing their skills in an online gaming qualification process. They will then compete against each other in live National Finals before the winners from each final switch to driving real Nissan cars at the now-famous Silverstone ‘Race Camp’.

The overall winner of GT Academy is then trained in the multiple areas required to become a professional racing driver, if the winner makes the grade they will compete in the Dubai 24 Hour race for Nissan and have the chance to be considered for a future career with Nissan as a ‘NISMO Athlete.’
