<empty>Daytona: Fastest Lap, Best Overtaking Manoeuvre
then heartbreak ...

<empty>
Daytona, Florida - July 3, 2008: (23:30 hrs) With the race seemingly unfolding as it should, spirits were high. But 54 laps into the race, a broken half-shaft had Brian bring the car to pit lane from P3. Repaired, the #61 would get back on track to finish the race but would be nine laps down. A bitter disappointment for Brian, Mark and everyone on the AIM Autosport crew.

The #61 would lead 16 laps, record the fastest lap of the race (1:42.499) and be credited by SPEED TV reporters with the best move of the race. But Mark's high-speed (180 mph) spin just before pit-in, might have been at the root of the problem with the half-shaft. The rear end of the car took a terrible jolt transitioning from the banking to the apron during the spin. Brian would be quick in his early laps back on track but soon experienced a vibration that worsened. The team set about replacing the broken part and got the car back on track to take the checkers. We will update points and post any additionalnotes tomorrow.
