DP Programme on Hold 2006.08.03: AIM Autosport's Daytona Prototype programme has been put on hold following homologation of a new Lexus power plant by the Rolex Sports Car Series. Following the team's debut at Daytona, a 5-litre Lexus motor was accepted for competition and the existing 4.3-litre engine became no-longer eligible. Lexus supplied new engines to all its teams and for most operations, the simple engine switch was easily accomplished. A victim of some unfortunate circumstances, AIM was unable to make the engine change. Using 2006 to test the waters, AIM does not have a dedicated crew for its Daytona Prototype. Instead, members of the Formula Mazda crew took on the extra work and faced with a mountain of repairs following their races at Montreal and Portland, simply had no time to work on the Daytona car. AIM is still fully committed to competing in the 2007 Rolex Sports Car Series and we hope to issue a revised programme schedule soon.
