From Pit Lane 2007.03.12: This is a new column, taking you behind the scenes for more info about AIM's Daytona Prototype programme. We'll talk to the crew and get their take on each race weekend. From Mexico City, here's AIM co-owner, Andrew Bordin: The weekend in Mexico went very well other than our qualifying effort when an electrical glitch set us back for the race. Other than that, it all went very well. I was personally happy about the fact that we tried a few new bits on the car and they worked out for us. We had new Dynamic DSSV dampers [shocks] and Performance Friction brake calipers. They made a big difference as Mark and Brian charged through the field from 18th to finish seventh. Along with this upgraded performance via our new bits on the car came the ability of our drivers to really connect with the car. They were able to really feel what the car was doing and essentially give the team the right direction to modify the setup to their liking. I am seeing our drivers evolve into world-class drivers! They are dealing with a new car and a new team in an unbelievable fashion. They are patient and analytical, which helps us get the best out of the car when we are looking for direction. Our whole program truly has been a team effort. While Brian [Friselle] and Mark [Wilkins] were working the track, Burt [Brian's brother] and his dad, Brad, were out watching from every angle to give the team some key info and insight to what our car is doing versus the other cars. This really helped us organize info and connect the dots. It is a good feeling working with a group that has one goal in mind! You can see our great crew in the team photo we took at pit-out on raceday morning. We perform well and we look good, too! Dan Hingley missed the photo shoot, but he had a good reason. He was with his wife Rachelle, celebrating the birth of their daughter Abigail. Congratulations!
