AIM Grids Sixth in Virginia 2007.04.28: AIM Autosport earned its best qualifying position in Daytona Prototype racing, taking sixth on the grid for the April 30 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va. Mark Wilkins of Toronto qualified the gold-backed No. 61 Lexus-powered Riley Mk XI in one minute 46.310 seconds on the 3.27-mile road course. He will drive the first race stint on Sunday, followed by Brian Frisselle of Lynchburg, Va. "The goal was top-five, but top-six is fantastic," Wilkins said. "The guys have been working so hard all weekend and have given us a great car. Brian worked really hard this morning and got the setup quite good and I worked on it this afternoon and was happy with the changes we were making. I think we're real close to the sweet spot. We've got a little bit more to do, but the car is definitely working for us a lot better." AIM Autosport co-owners Andrew Bordin and Ian Willis were in pit lane during the GT race, helping their partner team, Doncaster Racing, but they weren't in their usual positions on the pit stand, calling race strategy. Bordin manned the pit sign and Willis was a tire-catcher. "I was a goalie in hockey ..." he noted.
