Mid-Ohio:
Mark puts the car on the second row (P3)
String of top-five qualifying results remains unbroken
June 20, 2008 UPDATE 17:55
Mark had to deal with a bit of traffic at the start of qualifying but was immediately
on pace. He would go P1 on laps one and three but get bumped down as other cars
used clear track to their advantage. Mark would do a drive through the pit lane
to find space and would go out to set his fastest lap - a 1:28.109 on lap six
to sit P2. That held until late in the session when he would get nipped at the
line and end the session P3, just 2/10ths off pole.
Starting on the inside of row 2, this is the seventh consecutive top-five qualification
for the Exchange Traded Gold No. 61 Ford Riley.
Mid-Ohio:
Brian and Mark top the charts in practice
Mark ends the session P1 in the #61 Ford Riley
June
20, 2008 UPDATE 14:15:
After two practice sessions, the #61 Ford Riley continues to sit at the top of
the time sheets. Brian lead the field in session two with a 1:18.335. Both drivers
felt the car was well balanced on old tires - good for race conditions. The crew
is prepping the car for qualifying a bit later this afternoon.
Practice 1: With Qualifying set to go this afternoon, the AIM Autosport crew
was looking for some good data in morning practice to get the car set up. They
got more than that when both Brian and Mark would sit atop the time sheets for
most of the morning session. The crew had been working on some changes that saw
the laps times drop. Brian would set his fast lap of 1:17.990 and sit P1 getting
bumped to P2 by just .040 seconds. Mark took over and in the final few minutes
would score successive fast laps of 1:17.866 and 1:17.555 to take the Exchange
Traded Gold #61 Ford Riley to the top of the timing sheets to end the session.
Both Mark and Brian commented on how the changes to the car worked to their advantage. "The
car is working just great around the track" noted Mark. "It is handling
so well and we are not having to fight the car at all. I am really looking forward
to a good qualifying run this afternoon."
