John Edwards puts the #7 on pole
Race finishes under caution. Edwards P4

(08.23.2008) John would secure pole this morning but knew it could be a tight battle going into the race.

"It was a really good session. It was especially good to see that we were good on cold tires. We were P1 the whole time. The other guys closed in a little bit and kind of scared me a little bit. It's only 800th's that I the pole by, so that was a little closer than I wanted it to be."

When asked about how the race might go, he commented, "We'll see how it goes, you never know what's going to happen. It's a sprint race, but it's 45 minutes and anything can happen. "

Somewhat prophetic in that the race had two cautions and John would lose position on both (the details of which we are not yet certain) and with the race ending under caution, John did not have a chance to fight back for those spots.

"The one mistake I made in the race cost me big time. I was side-by-side with Dempsey when the team called a full course yellow caution on my radio because race control called it to them and in a normal situation you lift, but here we are, side-by-side and so in about a quarter of a second I went over it in my head about 100 times, "should I lift or should I not" , and I lifted but since the yellow flags weren't actually shown yet, Dempsey got to keep the position, even though you could debate who was ahead when they actually called it. So that put me back to second "

"Then on the restart he (Dempsey) got sideways in turn 10, so I had to check up and then Joel got a run on me, then I hit the oil in 8 and drifted, I literally was drifting through the marbles just sideways in turn 8 and almost held off Gladdis but unfortunately he got by me too. I wasn't worried, I was a little mad, but I knew we still had 30 minutes to go in the race, and I was 3 to 5 tenths quicker than Joel and Gladdis, but then they ran the whole race under caution! For 30 minutes out of a 45 min race. I don't know why they didn't just red flag it or just let us run! I mean we were racing on the oil for two laps, and I got caught out because of it, but you know that's racing sometimes! It was a little frustrating, but that's the way it goes sometimes."

"We made up ground in the championship despite what I consider to be a horrible and unlucky race. We're still having a good year and I think we can still win this this thing."

Star Mazda - Mopsort
Edwards fastest in Friday practice

(08.22.2008) John Edwards was fastest in both Friday practice sessions for the Star Mazda Series presented by Goodyear. John set his fastest time in the AIM Autosport #7 Formula Mazda in the morning recording a 1:15.842, four-tenths up on second place. The times were a bit slower in the afternoon with warmer temperatures but John still led the charge on the 2.459 mile Mosport circuit.

John has called us from the track and offered these comments: "The team has done a great job this weekend and we have a very good setup for this track. We were on fresh tires this morning when we turned the fast lap and the conditions were pretty close to what we expect fo qualifying tomorrow morning. Our chances at pole look pretty good from that standpoint." He continued, "This afternoon simulated race conditions as far as what our tires will be like and hopefully, the same weather conditions. We are lookig forward to a good day the opportunity to move up another spot in the championship."
