Star Mazda squad prepares for oval races
Goncalvez takes to oval tracks and posts quick times

(2009.05.28) AIM's Star Mazda team recently tested at The Milwaukee Mile and Iowa Speedway, two oval tracks the series will visit this summer. Rookie drivers David Ostella (71) and Jorge Goncalvez (72) attended both sessions to get acquainted with running on ovals while the crew got used to the different setups required and collected valuable data. The team has run on an oval previously when the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear raced at The Milwaukee Mile in 2006.

Goncalvez took to oval racing very quickly and set some fast times at both race tracks. The young Venezuelan driver was second fastest at Milwaukee and fourth fastest at Iowa. "Jorge did a great job and adapted very quickly" said team manager Keith Willis.

David Ostella took a bit longer to get up to speed and had some engine issues during the Iowa test that limited his track time. Willis commented, "David did a good job despite the problems which were compounded by the fact we lost track time in Iowa due to weather conditions. But David is a racer and we are confident that it will come together on race day."

The next race in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear is a double-header at New Jersey Motorsport Park, June 13 and 14.
