AIM Happy with Test Day Progress at Road America Being their first time here, all teams are on a fairly equal footing and AIM’s reputation for great handling proved well deserved as the car got faster in every session yesterday and even held top spot for much of the final session despite lagging on tire data having entered just half of the races so far this season. After a two-race absence, the team was thrilled to have posted the the second-quickest lap of the day with its GAMMA88 car. Today’s practice sessions were handled entirely by driver Burt Frisselle as his co-driver, Mark Wilkins, flew back to Toronto last night to participate in today’s announcement of the Gregory C. Wilkins Centre for Excellence in Neuro-Oncology at Toronto Western Hospital. Mark’s father, Greg, died of brain cancer in 2009. Much of today was spent in varying rain—quite heavy at times—and Burt had only about five laps on a nearly dry circuit during which he posted the fourth quickest time of the day, 2m 6.002s at an average speed of 186.1 km/h (115.7 mph). “I’m happy with the day,” said Burt, “We had tough conditions, but we got through it with everyone in good spirits. It was a little odd without Mark here to provide input, but he did most of the set-up work yesterday and the car feels great. Today’s weather allowed us to test some rain modifications and they worked really well in terrible conditions. “We’re looking forward to making more progress tomorrow morning and qualifying up front.” “We improved two positions every session during the test day, which I’m happy with,” said team principal, Ian Willis. “I think that realistically we were fourth or fifth quickest. A test day was especially good for AIM because it’s been a bit of a part-time season for us.” More practice sessions are scheduled for tomorrow and a 15-minute qualifying will begin at 2:35 in the afternoon. The Rolex Sports Car Series 250 Driven by VISIT FLORIDA is slated to start at 11am (noon ET) on Saturday with live coverage broadcast on SPEED and MRN.
