Pegram Takes Class Win at Trois-Rivières
Bowlin Rounds Out Podium at Twin Race Event

Larry Pegram collects his trophy after winning the Expert Class at Grand Prix Trois-Rivières. Woodbridge, Ont. (August 9, 2011) — It was a solid learning weekend at Grand Prix Trois-Rivières for AIM Autosport's Star Mazda Expert Class competitors with two races on the slate. Larry Pegram, drove his Foremost Insurance/Tampa Bay Jaw Surgery car to a class victory and a second place, while Walt Bowlin in the Tampa Bay Jaw Surgery car finished third in both races.

Buoyed by his pace at last year's event, Walt expected to do well, but tried too hard during practice and crashed. An engine issue in qualifying held him back a little, but likely didn't affect his starting position: third in class.

Larry needed some time to learn the track and get used racing in the walled environment of a street course—not something he sees when racing his AMA Superbike. He managed to quality second in class, feeling he could have gone quicker, but not willing to risk damaging the car.

During the first race, Walt drove well until a small mistake late in the race resulted in damage to the car's nose and forced him to pit. He finished third in class. Larry had good pace and held the class lead early in the race, but an intermittent electrical issue caused him to lose the lead and finish second.

Heavy rain on Sunday morning left the track feeling much different than it had in race 1. The cars were loose and the drivers were racing on a knife edge. Walt had a couple of dicey moments, but drove conservatively and managed to bring the car home undamaged in third. Larry was disappointed to find that the crew's work had failed to cure his electrical woes, but that didn't stop him from racing hard. While attempting to pass one of the Championship Class cars, Larry spun on some oil and lost nearly half a lap to the class leader. Later, Larry caught a break when the class leader spun and had to pit. This allowed him to take the lead on hold on for the win.

Larry and Walt will be racing again on August 27 at Infineon Raceway.
