GAMMA88 Car Claims Sixth-place Start In Close Battle at Montreal
At an average speed of 103.269 mph (166.195 km/h), Burt’s lap marked AIM Autosport’s fastest lap of the event so far as the team has gradually pulled the car up to speed. The qualifying run was also notable as AIM’s GAMMA88 car was the top qualifying BMW-powered entry, pipping Memo Rojas in the 01 car by just 0.033s. Given the number of successful races AIM has run at this track, it would not be a surprise to see the GAMMA88 car on the podium tomorrow. The team’s engineers are honing in on a race setup to provide long tire life and that, in combination with a fuel-saving strategy, has the team is looking forward to tomorrow’s 11:15am start. “I’m really encouraged by how far we’ve come,” said Burt after qualifying. “When we started this weekend, the car really wasn’t where any of us wanted it to be, but Ian and the crew put their heads in it and came up with some big improvements. To out qualify the 01 car is particularly nice as they run the same package as us. There’s still a little more speed in the car and we’ll drive a hard race tomorrow.” “Unbelievably close qualifying. Montreal, Que. (August 19, 2011) — AIM Autosport’s BMW-Riley sponsored by GAMMA88 will start sixth in tomorrow’s Montreal 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Driver Burt Frisselle drove the car during this afternoon’s qualifying session and, in a close battle that saw fourth to seventh span 0.06s, set a time of 1m 34.436s on the 2.709-mile (4.360-km)-long circuit to secure the third-row starting spot. Burt actually held fifth until a late flyer by the 2 car undercut his time by one-thousandth of a second.
